The crippled state of Kenyan Public Transport
On Wednesday 27th October 2022, Online Taxi drivers went on a massive city-wide strike over concerns of the low payment they receive per ride. Similar strikes and peaceful protests had taken place in Mombasa the previous day for the exact same reason. This was not abrupt. The frustrations of drivers had been piling up greatly,ContinueContinue reading “The crippled state of Kenyan Public Transport“

THE COST OF LIVING
THE COST OF LIVING GLOBAL INFLATIONARY PRESSURE Photo by Nicola Barts on Pexels.com With the 12month inflation rate standing at 7.08% against last year’s May inflation rate of 5.20%, Kenyans’ purchasing power has been greatly eroded. Yet to recover from the pangs of coronavirus (COVID)-19 pandemic, distraught citizens have taken shrill cries online. Amidst theContinueContinue reading “THE COST OF LIVING”
Humanism In University Education: Trailing Graduations
The lecturer attends to this student like some automaton, carefully analyzing the algorithm and instructions fed in (Freire, 1972). The reasoning is all done by the lecturer while the execution is conducted by the student. Anything new learnt is what the lecturer avails.
Dead Souls: The Ukrainian Spoils Aren’t for All
One would be forgiven for thinking that Mr. Putin could roast maize on his way to Kyiv while meme lords in Kenya secured another pack of popcorns. No better time could chance upon humankind than one of watching the peace pendulum being bobbed to and from with nationalists propping up for a realignment of globalContinueContinue reading “Dead Souls: The Ukrainian Spoils Aren’t for All”
Azimio Won’t Leave No One on the Streets, and Why OKA is Another Craft
That jobless citizens would pocket SH200 per day is an idea many haven’t considered even as the plight of street families remain unexplored. Perhaps, the sheltered ones in the capital city’s suburbs got their calculations right— an end month patriotic stipend of SH6000 is enviable despite its outright rejection of sound economics! To bottle lovers,ContinueContinue reading “Azimio Won’t Leave No One on the Streets, and Why OKA is Another Craft”
The Orange Elephant Won’t Lie Low On The Wheelbarrow
Those entrusted with elitism kowtowed to mediocrity even as mama mboga, and the University graduate-cum-commentator, trod cautiously with a temporary suspension of thought— on one hand, the ecologist Ruto routed for carts and wheelbarrows; engineer Odinga, on the other hand, grinned upon a monthly SH6000 hand cheque. Seemingly, the establishment as well as the ‘hustler’ContinueContinue reading “The Orange Elephant Won’t Lie Low On The Wheelbarrow”
Pandora’s Box: The Elephant in Uhuru
It wasn’t worrying that folks would stash money in offshore accounts withoutblinking an eye. In any case, stacking a few coins wasn’t that big a deal evenas mama mboga called it a day empty-handed. After all, the man in the arenacalled the shots amidst calls for holistic national discourses. Not long ago, HisExcellency, the President,ContinueContinue reading “Pandora’s Box: The Elephant in Uhuru”
JUST ACCEPT COOKIES AND MOVE ON
It wasn’t shocking that the people who agreed to needing protection the most never entertained the thought of actually paying for it. Or were they willing to compensate platform managers to maintain a low cookie count? Seemingly, individual free lunches are accepted effortlessly. But then, it is only those accessing certain web content that hadContinueContinue reading “JUST ACCEPT COOKIES AND MOVE ON”
Lipa na MPESA: The Scam That Drained Us!
Fellows weren’t resisting the temptation to reverse transaction. It appeared as if no one had trust in the other. Passengers are to be pardoned. In any case, the economy had faired badly with little to nothing left in building up confidence. Thus, PSV touts would always be busied in countering reverse transactions. Reducing physical contactContinueContinue reading “Lipa na MPESA: The Scam That Drained Us!”
The Hot Chipo Guy Offered Less Than The Bidding
The golden age would eventually dawn leaving all Kenyans satisfied that they neither had less nor more. Getting things right, nevertheless, requires telling apart ones which work from those which fail. Implicit in this assertion is that developmental policies ought to not be about opening a model to those, hitherto, excluded— ‘mama mboga, kijana yaContinueContinue reading “The Hot Chipo Guy Offered Less Than The Bidding”
Gold Diggers Are Reconsidering An Oiled Massage!
With fortune markets taking a dive, gold diggers aren’t having it smooth even as Mr. Socrates Majune maintains that miners take time to access gold. David Ndii had earlier hinted that having gold in one’s backyard wouldn’t automatically fatten the calf. It would have been easier were it about looking for greener pastures. Unfortunately, mowersContinueContinue reading “Gold Diggers Are Reconsidering An Oiled Massage!”
Amerix is Wrong! The Bad Guy is Confusing the Blend
Drawing upon the ‘oneitis’ argument, the tweep posits that man’s immediate need rests not in extending love, care, and empathy to female counterparts. Thus, a chained man has no business shouldering the burdens of an ingrate (?) Seemingly, no student has taken the lessons seriously as does Mutuku Nzomo who has been on a charm offensive to flee from symptomatic misdemeanors.
Hide and Seek Games Are Tearing Kenya Apart
Being brutally interested in the lives of others and the stories they tell made anyone no less a mortal! Belated discourse in the East African region hovers around national budget statements whose overarching theme is economic recovery pitying an aridity of strategic commitment against ‘anything goes’ slogans. In Kenya, for instance, the government believes inContinueContinue reading “Hide and Seek Games Are Tearing Kenya Apart”
The Government Cows In Against All Odds
That trading with stable governments borne risk is disputable even as proprietors grease the wheels of greed. Everyone throws their assets for a government to toy with given the certainty in meeting one’s obligations. Accordingly, investors find it enticing to lay claim on a state’s promissory note while hanging in the balance. But then, theContinueContinue reading “The Government Cows In Against All Odds”
The Crisis is Catching Up with the Student Imposter!
That looks would be misplaced stood the test of time even as television subscribers anticipated a vibrant engagement on 19th May, 2021— one of a kind striking a balance between camaraderie, on one hand, and purposed leadership, on the other hand. The securities exchange called it a day at 3p.m. paving way for the marketContinueContinue reading “The Crisis is Catching Up with the Student Imposter!”
Bloodhounds Licked the Festered Wound and the AG gave up!
It wasn’t enough that home guards outlived their generations. Neither was it conceivable that men would be right all the time nor that the up-and-coming generations would always ride upon the shoulders of giants. Narrowly speaking, the cult of significance haunted an otherwise reserved nation as its top citizens chanced an expeditious plunder. Thoughts becameContinueContinue reading “Bloodhounds Licked the Festered Wound and the AG gave up!”
Strip off Gaza and Burn the World
That financiers stood their ground didn’t escape the globe even as Palestine fought its survival up. With the British mandate behind them, oligarchs in Tel Aviv entertained little surprise on the plight of the underprivileged in Gaza. Neighborhoods which once had been nested played humanitarian tricks with terror bombarding the thoughts of an otherwise peaceableContinueContinue reading “Strip off Gaza and Burn the World”
Sweet Pang Pong: Definitely You Are Scared!
Evidently, everyone desired life even as coronavirus pandemic hit. Governments around the globe tightened the belt with widespread calls for a resilient, sustained battle. That man hadn’t mastered his world remained evident as the crisis tamed an otherwise curious creature. Demographers had little to say, save nodding concordance with Thomas Malthus. Nature’s checks and balancesContinueContinue reading “Sweet Pang Pong: Definitely You Are Scared!”
Uhuru’s Shaker: Why it mattered the least
That no one cared was evident even as the government took a break. 2020 had been such a sad specimen of a year that patriots took garbage time to debunk the myth of ‘If you behave normally, coronavirus will treat you abnormally!” It was also a year when the government went on an eating spreeContinueContinue reading “Uhuru’s Shaker: Why it mattered the least”
STATEHOUSE GLUTS ARE HAVING THEIR FILL
By Moses Muchiri, No economy can be said to be truly sustainable without future generations enjoying higher per capita incomes and higher per capita consumption levels. Thus, individuals and societies do save up with a view to laying the foundations upon which posterities prosper. Future generations can, however, not be obligated to do what theContinueContinue reading “STATEHOUSE GLUTS ARE HAVING THEIR FILL”
Starve the Comrade to Death and Tear Down the Net, Mr. President!
It’s a maze and the comrade’s belly, a den of lions! Little is to be desired from the Savanna economy’s disaster response trajectory over time. Kenya’s tremendous performance and resilience amidst coronavirus pandemic pities citizens against the basket of commodities. It comes, thus, as no surprise that all discussants regret the ever-rising cost of living.ContinueContinue reading “Starve the Comrade to Death and Tear Down the Net, Mr. President!”
Uhuru is Getting it Right All the Time but for the Wrong Reasons
The government’s business remained turning things around despite the mayhem inherent in a clueless setup. Everything could be fixed— policy rate, unemployment, fiscal deficits, and even patriotism. Inconsequential has been the debate around balancing various action plans and instruments with more coins being coughed up by the taxpayer. The Kenyan polity remains a battle groundContinueContinue reading “Uhuru is Getting it Right All the Time but for the Wrong Reasons”
A Crooked World Kills Magufuli Pombe, the Covid-19 Denier
It was no secret that man would eventually waste away and, like a chase after the wind, be forgotten for good or bad. That one would choose such a beautiful time to die in is remarkably a going concern as the world stage pities two factions- propaganda mercenaries and conspiracy theorists- against each other. Painful,ContinueContinue reading “A Crooked World Kills Magufuli Pombe, the Covid-19 Denier”
Babu Owino Kept Us Licking The Pot
That the basket wouldn’t leak forever escaped Babu’s diligence even as tweeps weighed in on the matter. Bruno Otiato considered the economy as inimical to a traditional African kitchen where bitter herbs and dried, roasted beef mixed in one accord. Thus, anything could be cooked up including mealtime declarations which seemed too mean to beContinueContinue reading “Babu Owino Kept Us Licking The Pot”
Stop the Loot and Return the Money!
That an individual would make away with the central bank on his shoulders was no surprise even as the International Monetary Fund called for public sector slimming. It didn’t escape Kenyans that a victorious fascist war had nothing to do with bad manners or uncouth public conduct. Thievery and appropriation of public resources could, atContinueContinue reading “Stop the Loot and Return the Money!”
Hustler Nation and 33 Shillings Bribe
That Kazi ni Kazi was in no doubt evident, but why give grown up young men and women 333 shillings? Perhaps, it was a compensation commensurate with 353 minutes of waiting for the little big man to show up and chat the way forward. Maybe, it was the price university students paid for extra secondsContinueContinue reading “Hustler Nation and 33 Shillings Bribe”
Valentine’s Massacre and Keeping Up With The Joneses
It wasn’t enough that such a moment chose a Sunday for its actualization. Or was it business as usual with lovebirds torn between congregating and funfair befitting the occasion? Perhaps, the florists, hoteliers, and camera persons had a deal. After all, covid-19 had left nothing to chance with religious services lasting shorter than an hour.ContinueContinue reading “Valentine’s Massacre and Keeping Up With The Joneses”
Give Them Jobs To Keep Them Busy Looking For Life!
No one has ever outsmarted a crafty government. As governments work in perpetuity, citizens labor to keep them rolling. Students cherish education not out of sheer love for schooling; instead, they are motivated by wage employment. Parents, on their part, quickly adopt reference points- encouraging their offspring to study smart in emulation of an establishedContinueContinue reading “Give Them Jobs To Keep Them Busy Looking For Life!”
Why Aren’t You Sharing In The Government’s Loot?
If the government behaves itself in an occasion that matters, what else could citizens ask for? But if it loots with grandeuse, patriots’ impatience forces them to act spontaneously in deposing such an insensitive regime.
Early Votes Couldn’t Go Wrong With BBI
No one honors their debt as do low-budget individuals. Given the nature of their trade, they rarely borrow; and when they so do, it is believed they are just helping the creditors spend their resources. Such low-budget individuals people Kenya’s socio-political macrocosm, and entail citizens from all walks of life_ from those who eat fare,ContinueContinue reading “Early Votes Couldn’t Go Wrong With BBI”
A Eunuch of Thought Running Government Business
It wasn’t fashionable as newspaper readers chanted, “Keep the government running!” No one had alluded at it being a business although its conduct was all that patriots had to entertain concern. The man at the helm was kept under strict supervision although he had no immediate interests to safeguard. The second in command had takenContinueContinue reading “A Eunuch of Thought Running Government Business”
The Simp Is Sipping Juice With A Nation’s Wit
Even as median voters and part time citizens decisively extended a governance mandate to a regime that renegaded, none ever thought it would all wound up into a single national conversation bordering tokenism. Evidently, the power and lighting monopoly had justly brooded an epochal scene for the fifth floor republic. The capital, though towing high,ContinueContinue reading “The Simp Is Sipping Juice With A Nation’s Wit”
Graduating At A Time of Covid: Reflections From A Lesser Pen
In the end, everyone takes graduation seriously. After all, the University has never been an idle walk in the park save for a few who couldn’t withstand the frustrations bestowed upon a tailored system. Historically, the reward to effort has been good grades despite the startling observation that in much books, there is no end.ContinueContinue reading “Graduating At A Time of Covid: Reflections From A Lesser Pen”
7 Year Tax Holiday: Too True To Behold or Otherwise? A BBI Consideration
It is not surprising that the government went on holiday before it could deliver on its strategic promises, namely; a two-digit growth rate, surplus economy. Informed governments always work towards running surpluses whereas myopic ones cherish a surplus of inferior and superfluous ideas. Sadly, as opined by Peter Nguka, despite the government having many pockets, it has failed to fill in persistently pervasive budget deficits!
Sharing in the Unemployment Tax Burden: A BBI Relook
In the end, no one looks for a job! Thus, the Building Bridges Initiative proposal remains self destroying. Peter Nguka and Anne Onyango have weighed in on the issue; in their understanding, the essence of struggling through a tenuous education system is for one to land a job. Jobs, on their part, aren’t ends inContinueContinue reading “Sharing in the Unemployment Tax Burden: A BBI Relook”
A Gazler Named Kenya: Where She Goes Wrong!
It’s no secret that Kenya’s public sphere has been contaminated by an avalanche of weak ideas, so terribly constructed that even their masterminds cannot identify themselves with them. Yet no one finds fault in such an arrangement that has not only crippled the economy but also exposed many citizens to mockery while coronavirus disease has implied that an increasing number of downtrodden Kenyans find solace through chanting political slogans by the roadside. How long this state lasts depends entirely on the persistence of the critical state of rebuilding the multi-nation state backwards. That’s absurd!
Trump ish and the Failed American Dream
Nothing had ever been like it before; not even the Real Donald Trump would come to terms! It all seemed magical, or strangely fulfilling that one man span a narrative too crosscutting to behold yet none doubted the incredulous voter. Time and chance played but only mundanely while questions lingered across the political establishment. ThatContinueContinue reading “Trump ish and the Failed American Dream”
BBI: A Coffin Bomb of Weak Ideas Awaiting Explosion
Never had an idea too weak as BBI ever seen the light of the day. On the face value, it was promising yet what it sought to bridge remained untouched as though it was something defiled and unworthy of a rethink. To expect that the university student would voluntarily register his intention to borrow from the Higher Education Loans Board and not repay wasn’t any far from insanity! Worse still was the belief that His Excellency, the President, who openly declared the youth as pilferers awaiting the right moment to tear the state apart would vouch for a young woman or man to mainstream youth issues as a constitutionally-backed youth commissioner. In any case, he has failed to understand that productivity declines drastically upon attaining senility. He is, nevertheless, not to be blamed! After all, the Right Honorable at 74 has jibed on different occasions that he harbors the strength of his youth. Sadly, a 24 year old man hardly knows what he has to do with himself. Thanks to the handshake, such a man has something to smile about; the Official Historian will keep a record of the torturous existence of this neglected individual while philosophers under him/ her will dig into the ethical and logical dimensions of his sufferings, psychologists will revisit the works of Freud in an attempt to help unravel the psycho-social developmental issues bedeviling him even as archaeologists unearth the young man’s long lost history. Indeed, it’s a golden era for the African Savanna!
A Populist Nobel Prize Committee Fetes An Unethical UN World Food Program
Everyone deserves something in life! Perhaps to make life meaningful; maybe, to bring the sense of belonging close home. As such, individuals do look forward to better things with none rarely rejecting a goodie. Even then, the economic man or econ posits that free lunches are elusive. That is, everything worthwhile has a price. GlobalContinueContinue reading “A Populist Nobel Prize Committee Fetes An Unethical UN World Food Program”
Rutonomics and the Inattentive Political Rally Attendee
It wasn’t a bad idea after all even as the multi-nation state struggled to understand where it had been. University students busied themselves with slashes and machetes, clearing the road in readiness for a toll expressway. Teachers, on their part, muffled humility with many tagging along brooms in anticipation for schools reopening. Parents watched inContinueContinue reading “Rutonomics and the Inattentive Political Rally Attendee”
An Irresponsible Government Sends More to the Streets
It is in STEM that the nation gets it wrong. Even with many mathematicians, scientists and technicians in the chambers, no one would engineer the country towards its economic nirvana. It was, thus, no surprise that math didn’t add up at the National Treasury.
Sonko and State Malevolence: Two Irredeemable Regimes!
After all, Nairobi National Park would make great a wheat field. Pauline Njoroge believed that Kenyatta’s food security, as envisioned in Big Four Agenda, made more sense than the magnificent Big Five in the zoo. Besides, virologists believed that covid-19 was largely of zoonist origin. Probably, Pauline was only tweeting in the best interest ofContinueContinue reading “Sonko and State Malevolence: Two Irredeemable Regimes!”
Kenya’s Road to Serfdom: The Animal Farm
In drawing parallels between bad guys and the lesser evil, terrible events unfold as though the high heavens suddenly bemused humankind with malevolence. The more the Kingdom of God suffered violence, the more dominions of men bud clowns; men unfit for office and women lacking in the graces of leadership! Even then, all animals are the same although some are better than others!
Lemons and Screening
We consider the used car market comprising of one seller and one buyer as specified: Let q and (1-q) be the respective probabilities of cream puff and lemon. Let π be expected probability that the car sold is cream puff, and (1-π) otherwise. π is necessarily not greater than p. We use backward induction toContinueContinue reading “Lemons and Screening”
O Orange House and A Short-Sighted Peasant!
What went wrong? Certainly, darkness reined in with voters realizing that they had actually been duped! It wasn’t a bundle of deliverables they voted against or did they entertain the trouble of information searching. Other than the majority who were baited by mtu wetu, voters had this in mind: a candidate is voted in atContinueContinue reading “O Orange House and A Short-Sighted Peasant!”
Committed to The Wrong Course
It was something we could live with! The global community had always believed in markets’ natural instincts to deliver the best. Thus, when covid-19 came knocking, market fundamentalists underestimated the impending danger. Yet the world shut its doors. As days went by, numbers grew scary and humbling. Governments became more united than ever before, althoughContinueContinue reading “Committed to The Wrong Course”
A Government That Never Learnt of Ohuru’s Comedy Shows
President Kenyatta drove the agenda home. Nothing could be more desirable than cabinet secretaries and governors reporting on lessons learnt in a big stately event. Whether, he intends to use the report in fast-tracking quick responses in the unforeseeable future or part of his collections at Ichaweri museum, remains a mystery. Certainly, the first man means no good to the country and it is time patriots kept watch of the scenes as they unfold.
A Captive Economy: When Formulae Fail To Deliver
The question we fail to respond is one of why math? Must every other policy issue melt down to mere mathematical models with a handful of unscrupulous assumptions? Perhaps, this is the challenge Kenya faces in her divisive allocation of county revenue formula.
But, Mr. President! Why?
Sooner, the Southern-bound ship will halt its sail and sink altogether. It is time citizens hearkened to Ndii’s reminder that, indeed, they are on they own their own. Even the government is barely alive while haggling in parliament remains largely unfruitful.
An Irresponsible World Blasts Lebanon
Quite disheartening is that mortals have been left to their own speculative devices, turning the entire fiasco into a fanfare. They stand pardoned all in all. In any case, what would a person be taken for who in the greatest hour of need choses a hashtag #Lebanese Lives Matter in the place of demanding satisfactory explanations of the mess?
One Man One Shilling One Vote: A Misplaced Idea
It is not pocket change that is at stake or is it disputable that there is no economy without people. Allocation of revenue is, however, not an exercise of rewarding people for living in an economy. In any case, the people rarely ever do think of life within the economy. A focus on gainers or losers, thus, masks individuals from grasping what a nation loses should inequality be widespread as anticipated by the One Man One Vote One Shilling campaign. To us, such an insult deserves resilient opposition!
Uhuru’s Mass Graves Going Global
One would be forgiven for believing that the government has a monopoly of good ideas.
Whither Keynes At Odds With New Evidence: Understand Economics At One’s Own Peril
Latest developments have exposed conventional economic wisdom to ridicule. Evidence during the health crisis in Kenya leave nothing to be coveted about theory, a bedrock upon which every other economic bases their argument. That wages are sticky downwards is not in question; however, it is crystal clear that employers have pursued coercion to flex wages with employees falling in for wage cuts. Seemingly, implicit contracts exist only to the extent that the wordings retain their semantic appeal without any practicability. This casts doubt on Keynes postulation that wages would remain as sticky as possible. Perhaps, it is time a totally different narrative made its way to the stage.
He Is Cooking Covid Numbers in Wonderland
And if one didn’t bother to look keenly, he could be easily confused for pieces of furniture or Alice in Wonderland. Whether he has performed or needs another chance remains shrewd in darkness; no one understands what to report about him, not even, he, himself! Thus, as covid numbers go up, everyone mesmerizes at what a misfortune had befallen the country. Sadly, the numbers appear cooked up although no one can single out the kitchen.
President Uhuru Lied With The Balloons and Timed Out
The president treasures honesty to the point of never revisiting a lie in passing. Accordingly, bygones are let be bygones as the country soldiers on a new case flooded in avalanches of promises. Keen and true to his word, balloons are launched into the air never to return again. Just that and nothing is left for a tale. Citizens and subjects alike have no option besides abiding by the strict edict of citizenry. The president loves and cares!
The Comrade Is Dead! Better Let The Ship Sink
It isn’t hope that kills them but feeling that comrades had it all figured out is misleading. In any case, they were in just for the timely convenience which an education loan brought about. Many would soon return upcountry and start afresh were the funds to be withdrawn. Yet no one interrogated why debts were being forced down their throats. Like a sick and tipsy man, the university comrade admired donated campaign t-shirts in political rallies, and soon enough had no testimony of his own besides siding with the corporatocrat that indeed, his skills didn’t meet the threshold! That’s the comrade for us!
President’s Head on A Platter
If the general surrenders, the war is lost, and his head is demanded on a platter. If the general portrays the commander-in-chief in bad light and falls out with his rangers, the president parts with his own head. The stakes are so high that neither wishes ill of the other although they are unlikely to cooperate.
Latrine for The Emperor: A Crown of Fables
Failed regimes prevail as long as initial conditions hold. Over time, the initial conditions of confidence in a government lose influence while random effectiveness and efficiency settle down to become stationary. In the end, it’s either the case that governments outlive their subjects or the finitely lived individuals dethrone their masters. At such a time, no one does toiletry for another.
Undertones of A Kenyan Despot: Vagaries of Impunity
He rather hoists the national flag half-mast in remembrance of a Burundian dictator than chart the way forward towards participatory development with his subjects! His stature rejects adaptation even in the glaring face of democracy. Succinctly, democracy is on trial and the experiment might not live long.
The Emperor Is Dead!
From a president mesmerized at the central bank’s vault in Nairobi to His Majesty’s Treasury in Eswatini, nothing more could be asked for. With bureaucrats, all monies were pocket change although ordinary citizens had to content with the camera for a philanthropic bargain. No one was as ambitious as the next person. A series of experiments ensued with a sure bet being in Federal Nigeria culminating into the infamous Harold Wilson Syndrome.
Eve Was Framed and the White House Burnt Down
He longed for freedom yet it wasn’t within means, or the people’s mistake; it was the experts… so long as memes kept streaming in… and camaraderie grew sweeter with each passing day.
A Government That Promised For Too Long
Rare events grew common until we doubted our senses. Yet no one stood up for the economy as they tore it apart. It was either the lifeless economy cows in or faces up to its adversaries.
The Magic Tree Chopped Down: Last Mile
No one doubted that. The axe had met the rod and certainly, something would change for good! Even gardeners thought so and held their breath. The last mile had been ambitiously deliberated upon. In no time, citizens would reap the fruits of their labor. It’s magical!
The Kitchen Burnt Down: We Lost The Promise
Ushering in the golden era of economic mismanagement, Young Luo Professionals waxed off. Naivasha welcomed eye witness chronicles. Stray Kenyan cows were auctioned by Dodoma. In Laikipia, cows were shot dead. Hunters and gatherers were scrubbed off the development agenda while paper Mills reverted back to Rai Paper. The tide of progress was hitting faster than tenable as the kitchen burnt down. No more numbers could be cooked!
Mama Scones and Residual Profits: A Lie At Afya House
Even crusaders of ‘there being enough for everyone’ wouldn’t wish to be considered last. Seemingly, it isn’t enough for everyone. Evidently, individuals have strong incentives to misbehave even when being good-natured pays well.
Economic Recovery Council: A Con of Times
No one doubts the president’s sanity or clarity of thought. Hitherto, he, the Right Honorable, was bad for the economy. Perhaps, a Messiah would not be desired at a better moment than this. Maybe, he got the right gears. After all, he’s an engineer!
Scars of Tenderness: A Lie in Happiness
No one wakes up to entertain a sad day, not even a sadist, if she exists. A fulfilling day is everyone’s desire. Individuals avoid harm and never labor in painstaking adventures. But then, are societies getting happier?
Scars of A Mother: Schooling Outcomes
It is not enough for pupils to recite, “Sasa ni saa sita, kwaheri mwalimu. Tutaonana kesho.” [It’s noon, and see you tomorrow. Bye, teacher!] Strangely, bad teachers have institutionalized such chants while others force four-year olds to sleep at 10a.m. as though pupils left home for school just to sleep there.
Memories of Yester Years
Although it was scarce, no one believed that individuals would one day live without land. Braggarts troubled newspaper kiosks as peasants cowed in. Elgon Club was evolving from a stopover point to a land of affluence. Large land owners always had their way while the rest weren’t counted amongst men. This, however, met an early grave with greed and indiscipline bargaining for a better deal. But then, was it all in vain for those who dared to dream big?
Makiwa: The Village Met Us
Erroneously, they believe that the much dreaded pneumonia is a consequence of being rained upon. Sadly, they aren’t keeping themselves warm. Across the pathways, rumor renders it that death is inevitable. Individuals are, thus, less careful. Interestingly, villagers are not dying off diseases or floods. Rather, it’s poverty-induced hopelessness that is slowly killing them.
Makiwa…
There’s a problem but no one knows what it’s. And that’s the problem! So, I returned home [just like any other person] despite the many warnings; but I didn’t go to die there or for what awaited us! That’s another problem!
Annals of A Freshman
Even then, he doesn’t miss out entirely. √2 salves his sociability; the freshman employs his irrationality finding in synthesizing particularly impressive vibes for an early start. Interestingly, little thought is advanced towards the realms of set complementarity.
No, They Were Human!
There’s a feeling that perhaps they were only after the cakes and the hustle. Maybe, they didn’t want anyone to notice although it has always been evident from the start; they would always have what their hearts desire. But then, these were individuals among us, and no one would confuse them for hopeless, though helpless, beings.
Lab Rats: The Economic Foul Play
It is not news at all! No one believes their report as prophetesses are ignored and prophets fed to the dogs! Evidently, economists have betrayed the world at her greatest hour of need even as medics tire in laboratories. Sadly, there is no economy small enough to be cultured in a laboratory.
Here’s Our Chance To Ridicule Economists
It’s not that economists are trying to be protective. Rather, copying a compound interest model and pasting it in epidemiological studies leaves no room for optimism; economists do not, however, work with assumed hope but facts supported with data.
Kidagaa Kimemwozea na Ken Walibora: Mchakato wa Uchumi
Nani huyo ambaye kidagaa kimwemwozea?…
Economics: The ‘She’ Question
Maybe, they aren’t investing as much as their male colleagues or economics is biased against women. Unlike men’s pair of trousers which allow them to transfer cash or wallet from one pocket to the other, women’s handbags are analogous to a toolkit. But then, is it possible that these handbags aren’t carrying as much competencies as men? Or, every other single economist is leading a lie? Probably, those in the limelight are wrong; they could be right!
Ken Walibora: The Economic Man In Ndoto Ya Almasi
Ken Walibora: Mtoto Wa Mama
Siku moja nitawadia- na nitarudi kuko huko moyo wangu uliko, na labda maisha tena nitayatamani… na hiyo itakuwa siku njema kwangu.
The Burden of Progress
The evolution of the expert has been touted as tremendous. Beginning with the doctorate student in the 1990s, through the medical intern in mid 2000s to Caren on Facebook and Chafwesa on Twitter in 2020, it seems change has been quite retrogressive. This has increased the burden of progress shouldered by a few individuals as opposed to spreading out. Perhaps, it’s time the world forgot about the expert and embraced the professional.
The Mask Unmasked
Even then, David Ndii, the Nairobi- based economist argued that city life was to be survived as opposed to being lived. Put differently, city dwellers found themselves in such residences as individuals who had sojourned briefly; in the end, they would all pack and return to various designate villages. Thus, the urbane community remained compact as far as commerce, education and industry went. Bitange Ndemo, the entrepreneurial academe, wondered why urban dwellers considered setting up buildings – mainly semi- permanent- in the villages. His main worry was that despite significant investments in the cities and major towns, individuals did little to benefit themselves or their constituents back in the rural areas. Rather than risk entirely in the event of a negative shock, individuals chose villages as fallback nets.
Queer Trades: of lower grades
Everyone wants growth but no one is interested in change. Human stagnation reflects sustained opposition to change. In the end, everyone is served the benefit of undesirable outcomes.
Will The Poor Always Be With Us?
The burden of survival falls disproportionately on the poor and low – income groups who have to bear up with the misdeeds of the affluent and the privileged. Viewed as a tool of their own deprivation, the poor remain largely ignored in some societies. Their existence cannot, however, be wished away entirely.
Against A Stimulus Package: Corona Economy
Distinguishing essential and non-essential services sectors with a shutdown of the latter pities conventional recessions. According Paul Krugman, a partial shutdown could be analogized to a medically- induced coma; with time, the economy resuscitates. Before then, however, dormancy might force workers to be laid off. In response, aid relief has to come to their rescue.
Ndii’s Wager: Facing The Crisis
But then, Ndii (DPhil) believes there is something wrong in the micromanagement of a national macrocosm. The economist confesses to have no respect or regard for the president. In his view, the latter professes some unpardonable inadequacies as a result of repetitive systematic failures. It’s evident that policies, both fiscal and monetary, have pitied the best brains in the country. It seems cancerous to ponder over the situation. Sadly, Ndii’s critiquing has been referenced as pedestrian while his solutions have been laughed off as impractical.
Ruins of Malfeasance: A Gory Corona Outbreak!
No one really understands what is going on. Even AI- adapted supercomputer, Summit, has failed to grasp the unfolding. All fingers remain closed that perhaps autumn/ fall will strike the magic bullet as the world awaits breakthroughs. In Italy, death toll has risen to such levels that news has lost meaning. No one is watching the screens nor purchasing newspapers. Everyone is scared of finding their loved ones in the obituary segment. The Italian Premier has admitted their limitation even as they anticipate remedy from the skies.
Corona: A Game Theory Context
It might be the case that the Chinese government failed to properly respond to corona virus outbreak during its initial stages. Thus, what the world is witnessing is a byproduct of a world’s economic power ignoring early signs of imminent catastrophe. Besides, Covid-19 was considered purely a Chinese problem. Hence, no one outside mainland China would believe that the virus called for attention overseas.
Corona: A Global Shakeup
It might take the global economy 3 years to fully recover from corona shock. Seemingly, markets might not be flexible enough and swift to recover on their own thus necessitating the use of economic stimulus. WHO pledged US $ 1billion in aid to countries recording new cases. Kenya has set aside an estimated US $ 80 million to cushion the tourism sector. But then, what happens in the circumstances?
The Fault In Our Economics: A Conversation
What we are witnessing is a byproduct and reflection of a rotten culture as Kigen Kiplimo observes. Everyone is eyeing having a share without strict adherence to best practices. Essentially, it will take time before sanity is restored in our public discourse and perhaps the expedience of military discipline will be inevitable.
Singapore’s Success and Kenya Vision 2030
Critics of Kenya’s government policies and governance are belabored with comparisons alongside Singapore. David Ndii faults such an act arguing that skill bases differed and have never been at par. In 1963, Singapore enjoyed a skill and human resource advantage over Kenya. Her neighbors as well as potential rivals served as pacesetters.
What Next For Kenya When Corona Virus Knocks
Historically, the Chinese spare nothing besides man in their protein intake. It is, however, strange that history records nothing about Covid- 19 pandemonium prior to 2020. Put differently, it is questionable to link pangolin consumption with the spread of the virus.
Completing the Equation: Foreign Direct Investment
The documents have since been argued to be shrouded in vagueness and insincerity. Poor countries understand this pretty well. Nevertheless, governments fear running bankrupt more than they fear stringent terms attached to a debt or aid. Thus, blue and white papers are ratified without queries.
Student Airlifts Misaligned The FDI Narrative
In Africa, especially Kenya, almost every single university has a Confucius Institute. Could it be the love for Chinese culture that accounts for these developments? Perhaps, treating this case as isolated is problematic. But then, is the Chinese government that philanthropic?
Coins Aren’t Any Safe
To an alcoholic, this could be maturing some whiskey. His biggest impediment lies in not grasping proper timing. Economics provides for optimal timing. Individuals are, nevertheless, not revising their notes while at the counter. Having no precise math with them, they would rather empty the whiskey bottle in the present than count upon a distant future!
A Nation At A Crisis: When FDI means something else
School textbooks definitely lied. In tying brain drain to human resources outflow, it could be expected that jobs previously held by emigrants would be available to residents. Unfortunately, those poached went with their jobs in the then political economy.
A World Rid off Dynasty
Some employees are even ready to brave 3 strokes of the cane just for a daily wage of US $0.43 while others have to bear up with funny foreign accents in their motherland. Man’s free was all but a lie, and Kenyans were scammed to believe so! Even the Right Honorable regrets that there are no dynasties; everyone is suffering.
Pangs of Joblessness
No one doubted it. Initially, jobs chased after qualified individuals. But then, they were only but a handful. The skill base remained generally low in a stagnant economy. Away from the continent, life was changing so fast with economies transforming at such a pace that falsified evolution. Hitherto, it wasn’t a miracle.
Milking The State
As societies advance economically, expectations of the people rise to match such improvements. However, individuals continue adjusting their expectations upwards regardless of social progress. In so doing, it reaches a point when expectations outmaneuver the progress realized.
Moi: Was It Milk or Schools?
The leader longs to have a name after himself. Succinctly, his ambition goes to inking down a mark in history. He builds schools hoping that his subjects would be taught on how to read his history. That way, his name would remain alive long after he is gone.
Wasted Fortunes
Evidence indicates that individuals do not conduct comprehensive case studies on the market before embarking on the academic journey. Besides, during early years, individuals attend school as a result of coercion or as a response to underlying consequences.
Feeding Political Clowns
Given the peculiar characteristics of the common man, namely; easily identifying with his own in nativity and appearance, the elite pick comedians to run the show for them. Common man is thrilled although his fanfare is short-lived. Afraid of missing out, the comedian too takes his seat and watches the show!
General Miguna Miguna’s Zombification
But then the General’s zombie exists in a futureless world. Devoid of brains and wits, this object never deliberates. Consequently, any right step taken by him is accidental. Chance occurrence is a preserve of the boss, whom the General calls a despot.
It Was Better With University Heists
In creating problems that only he can fix, the African University Professor remains relevant. Even then, others find the temptation to be drawn into unnecessary battles irresistible. However, penury dissuades them from such pursuits.
Designers could be getting smarter
Arguably, an individual could be willing to sacrifice their freedom just for a meal. Individuals do not, however, trade all other wants just for food. Instead, they strike a balance. Evidence indicates that people do not constantly seek shelter as they do for food and clothing, at times ending up on impulse buying.
Soleimani Out In Came Locusts!
Governments world over are in the business of appearing to be doing something. Even then, the government’s position on the locust menace made strong assumptions. Foremost, the state officer assumed that individuals are idle and actively looking for suspicious insects. But then, the Qassem murder together with a threat of retaliation on allied states left Kenyans thoughtful.
No More Revision After This
Restaurants are collapsing not because they are offering free meals. Customers are just not turning up. Heavy bills are being footed by cash- strapped owners. Job cuts are looming with more unprecedented exits being witnessed. No one knows why this is so, even researchers and travelers remain in the dark. It all points to one thing; the government!
Oiling The Gun: Why The War In Iran Matters
The USA to me is like Charles [This comical short man can’t remember his second name]. He creates employment for himself by throwing stones to break glass windows; then immediately walks by the broken windows with new glass windows so that he is asked to fix them and gets paid. If he knows he’ll be noticed, he’ll ask the little boy he raised to throw [the] stones instead.
Wrong Math: Errors and Omissions
It all seems complicated. No one knows where the funds are; even negotiators remain in the dark! Naive commentators had posited that businesses, fearing a hostile environment, opted for capital outflow. But then reports contradict such an assertion.
Social Burden to Schooling
Such discrepancies aggregate badly as Waswa would put it although not to the extent of exploding as Joseph would make us believe. Notably, it is in the systematic failure to correct such anomalies that outcomes aren’t that encouraging.
In The Making: Reflections on Telecom Industry
Everyone seemed to have money with deals being closed upfront. Those who didn’t have counted upon well-wishers and windfall gains. Seemingly, civilization was being redefined with dotcom generation working her way towards greater realization. Even American Telephone and Telegraph (AT&T) needed restructuring lest they lose out at the behest of telephone shakeup.
It Wasn’t The Promise: The Decade In Between
Unlike 2017 when casket business seemed to be in a bust, this year has been remarkable. Coffin making has largely been the greatest scam which locals had to cope up with. To a keen observer, it was evident that businessmen had run short of ideas to the point of looking forward to death as a viable opportunity. Thus, they would deliberately stifle any attempts geared towards revamping health care and boosting longevity. Worrisome is that most casket makers and sellers were unlicensed.
Christmas Travel Thru The Eyes of A Graduate
Close ties and friends probably contributed a little or made up for fundraising. Graduates themselves are of a different opinion. Economist Wycliffe Mbithi, for example, regrets that he spent more towards arranging for after graduation party than what he got in return. Even with this, he had to cater for return tickets. To him, it was important to ferry his guests as soon as possible despite high travel expenses.
Fixing the Math Across Generations: Why Graduation Counts
Falling into slavery is a time construct. Individuals therefore seek to constantly improve on the milestones achieved by predecessors. As an individual pursues education and ultimately ends up a free man, others learn to associate educational attainment with low levels of slavery. Thus, more souls become desirous of an education.
Odds Won’t Add Up
Odds aren’t adding up. Individuals believe that staking more and often increases the possibility of them making it big. Evidence refutes such a claim. A gamer’s cash endowment is limited and his natural instincts drives him towards early bankruptcy.
It Wasn’t True: Tuktuks didn’t change the game!
Juakali artisans began bidding on outcomes with more designs and make cropping up. Skills were sourced from nearby technical colleges and polytechnics. This didn’t mean that educational centers gained much. Being a chance encounter, only a few strategically positioned craftswomen benefited; and possibly shared the spoils with crisp makers or grocers.
